10 Best Jump Scares From 2024’s Biggest Horror Movies
1. He's Already Inside - Oddity
Oddity is crammed with a variety of nail-biting moments that could've filled this entire list. But if any moment should be singled out, it has to be the tent sequence.
This Irish paranormal flick opens with a deranged man, Olin, visiting the house of Dani to alert her that a mysterious figure has infiltrated her home. Believing Olin's claim is a ruse to get inside, Dani dismisses him.
But when Dani learns someone is indeed lurking in her house, she hides inside a tent in her living room. After hearing a noise, Dani becomes laser-focused on the doorway in front of her since that's the only place the intruder can come from.
Or so it seems.
As Dani leans forward, a masked figure appears right beside the tent door, indicating he's been beside the tent the whole time. This misdirect is simple but effective, especially since the masked man's appearance is accompanied by a blaring sound effect.
Even though Oddity is filled with ghosts, psychics, nightmare-inducing golems, and toe-biting crazies, it's this reveal that's likely to leave the biggest impression.
