10 Best Killer Doll Movies

2) Doll Master (2004)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naF8-ji4y8A This is a super duper scary dolls picture from South Korea which firmly establishes the country as a rising star in the horror movie production stakes. Flashback to World War 2. The Japanese have invaded South Korea. A doll-maker falls in love with a woman in a red kimono and makes a life size doll based on her image. Happily for him, the woman loves him back but when she is found murdered, the doll-maker is held responsible and killed. The doll has sat by his grave for decades, mourning ever since. Cue the present day, five young people have been called to a mansion to have dolls made in their image by Im, a female, paraplegic doll-maker. In truth, they have really been called here because they are descendants of the vigilantes who killed the doll-maker during the Second World War. Im kills them off one by one using the many dolls around the mansion. Hae-mi, a female sculptor is the only one remaining. She is plagued in the mansion by a little girl called Mina who turns out to be the soul of a doll Hae-mi had in childhood. Im uses Mina to try and kill Hae-mi, but Hae-mi gets there first and kills Im. There are a whole lot of other plot lines going on but I was very confused as to what was happening. All I know is that in the end the dolls go up in a blaze of smoke and Hae-mi is okay. The characters in the film are extremely stereotypical but the dolls are entertaining scary and very well imagined. I loved it when the first doll moved its eyes. It reminded me of the beginning of Exorcist 3 and the statue of Jesus opening its eyes. Creepy. As I said above, I was a bit perplexed by several threads in the plot. The film tries to be clever but just ends up confusing, it is best when it sticks to dolly murder. I was also displeased when it used the whole scary Asian woman with long dark hair falling down her face in a sinister way a la Sadako motif. That's been done to death but overall, a commendable effort which will thrill psycho dolly film fans.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
