10 Best Legacy Movie Sequels Ever
1. Logan (2017)
In the end, there could be only one. After seventeen years in the role of Wolverine, Hugh Jackman bid farewell to the X-Men franchise with its greatest film, Logan, which follows the ageing hero in a world far removed from the one audiences have been accustomed to.
Taking place in a distant future, the violent drama follows a broken Wolverine as he works tirelessly to protect an old, weak Charles Xavier, and comes into contact with a young mutant who may offer hope to a near-extinct mutantkind.
Dark and gloomy, the drama twists expectations by revealing the previous X-Men films themselves are fictional, and the actual world they inhabited was much crueller and unhappy than anything we'd been led to believe.
Logan not only serves as a haunting send-off to one of the greatest comic book characters ever adapted to the big screen, but it also ties up many of the previous film's tragedies by reimagining them in a much more violent, hopeless world, which director James Mangold explores without fault.
Logan is a tragic, harrowing film, but there have been few superheroes movies better, and fewer still that have brought their characters' stories to an end so unforgettable. That's one hell of a legacy.
