10 Best Mark Ruffalo Performances
8. Bruce Banner/The Hulk - The MCU (2012-present)
Mark Ruffalo's most famous role is also one his absolute best. First appearing in The Avengers (2012), he replaced Edward Norton in the role as Bruce Banner and won over fans with his calm and measured performance, which brilliantly acted as a counter to Hulk's angrier, more violent impulses.
After a brief, hilarious cameo in Iron Man 3's (2013) post-credit scene, he returned to the role in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) and was given more time to work with Banner's complicated relationship with his alter-ego. In Thor: Ragnarok (2017), an arc was kicked off which showed Banner slowly coming to grips with his angry counterpart.
This story was continued in both Infinity War (2018) and Endgame (2019), the latter of which allowed Ruffalo to not only play a fully-CGI character for the whole movie, but also show off just how adept he can be at comedy. Throughout the franchise, Ruffalo has been tragic, endearing, angry and hilarious, and with him being set to reprise the role in the upcoming She-Hulk mini-series, we can only hope he's going to keep entertaining audiences for years to come.
