You can understand that Iron Man might have its share of deleted scenes, meanwhile. Really he's building his first suit of armour, with which he escapes - but doing that in secret makes the bad guys seem a little inept. The quiet scene of him playing a board game with fellow hostage Ho Yinsen, culminating in one terrorist killing the other, showed they meant business and the stakes were high.
