THIS is all about power. Thanos's sword has brought planets to their knees. It brought Captain America to his knees, as well, as audiences were shocked to see Cap's presumably indestructible shield shatter under the crushing force of Thanos's mighty blade. This is the weapon of a conqueror - the weapon of choice for a warlord who has laid waste to entire civilizations like it was his job.

The films never confirmed what Thanos's double-edged sword was made of. Some of theorized that it could've been made of Uru metal (the same substance that makes up Mjolnir and Stormbreaker), though this has never been confirmed. All we know is that it's powerful enough to cleave through vibranium, and that alone is equal parts impressive and horrifying.

Not only have we seen Thanos throw it like a spear, but we've seen it return to his hand like Mjolnir and Cap's shield. He's also able to spin the sword around in a circle, like a helicopter. How? Who knows? Let's chalk it up to alien technology. Whatever the explanation, this blade is not only an incredible melee weapon, but it can also serve as a defensive piece.
