10 Best Mission: Impossible Stunts
8. Knife To The Eye: Mission: Impossible II (2000)
Mission: Impossible has its fair share of heights, vehicles, and explosions. For that reason, this stunt may be considered a little less highbrow. Does that make it any more ludicrous? No it doesn't. It involves a knife, an eye, and a margin for error so wide, you could park your car in it.
While camera trickery and special effects might have made this moment a little less spine-chilling for all concerned, Tom Cruise instead opted to make the 'Dougray Scott trying to stab him in the eye' shot as real as possible by insisting that Dougray Scott actually try to stab him in the eye. No pressure.
The only thing preventing a popped pupil was a cable, which was measured to stop just an infinitesimal distance away from Cruise's eyeball. Dougray Scott only had to stab like he meant it, and trust the cable to do the work.
One can't help thinking that there would have been a safer way to a achieve this. Tom doesn't even blink, the mad bugger.
