10 Best Movie Characters Of 2021 (So Far)

8. Cyborg - Zack Snyder's Justice League

Cruella Emma Stone
Warner Bros.

Cyborg (Ray Fisher) is the one and only exception to this list's "new characters only" rule, given that he barely felt like a character at all in the 2017 version of Justice League.

In the recent Snyder Cut, though, the character is brought fully to life, with 20-or-so minutes of excised subplots and other material being restored to his enormous benefit.

Sure, his all-CGI cyborg suit still looks not great, but the Snyder Cut lends dimension and shade to a character who felt completely inert in the "Whedon Cut."

Here, the existential anguish of his initial death and strained relationship with his father Silas Stone (Joe Morton) are both explored palpably, elevating Cyborg from a forgettable, charmless also-ran into a genuinely compelling character and, dare one say, one of the movie's actual highlights.

Between the collapse of the linear DCEU and actor Fisher's own strained relationship with Warner Bros. following his accusations of abuse against Joss Whedon, though, it sadly doesn't seem likely we'll ever see Fisher ever playing the part again.

If this is indeed a premature send-off for this iteration of the character, then, it's at least a fittingly complete portrayal.
