10 Best Movie Characters That Never Say A Word

8. Michael Myers - Halloween

Valhalla Rising Mads Mikkelsen
Universal Pictures

The horror genre is full of silent masked murderers, but right at the top of the pack alongside Jason Voorhees is Michael Myers - the terrifying Shape whose mute savagery has terrified movie audiences for over 40 years.

Though Michael did technically speak in the two Rob Zombie reboot films, in the core series he's always been a silent merchant of death, slaughtering anyone who gets in his way with a terrifying inevitability.

Beyond his iconic heavy breathing, Michael's silence emphasises both his near-supernatural ability to attack undetected and his stature as a force of nature - unprejudiced and practically unstoppable.

Michael takes no pleasure in his acts of murder nor does he appear to feel much of anything else.

He kills relentlessly for the sheer sake of it - at least until the wonkier sequels ill-advisedly tried to explain it away with cults and rituals - and that's what makes him the ultimate cinematic boogeyman.
