10 Best Movie Characters That Never Say A Word

5. Kiriyama Kazou - Battle Royale

Years before The Hunger Games, there was Battle Royale - the ludicrously entertaining black comedy from legendary Japanese filmmaker Kinji Fukasaku.

The plot was simple - at the behest of a totalitarian Japanese government, every year 42 students are taken to a remote island and forced to fight to the death until just one remains.

But that's not all - the lineup includes two surprise entrants, including the sadistic kid who apparently signed up just for fun, Kiriyama Kazou (Masanobu Ando).

Beyond being a red-haired psychopath who relishes decapitating his fellow "contestants" with a sickle, Kiriyama is rendered even more terrifying given that he never utters a single word throughout the entire movie.

The only sound he makes at all is blowing into a megaphone, and that's just seconds before he uses said megaphone to broadcast another student's brutal murder to the surrounding area.

There's no reason given for his silence in the film, though it's likely part of his (damn successful) attempt to intimidate his rivals.
