Though by far the most iconic "silent" character in Kevin Smith's "View Askewniverse" is his own Silent Bob, that character has also spoken enough times throughout the series that we can't really say he never speaks a word.

But Smith did deliver such a character in earnest in his hilarious 1999 satire Dogma, with a surprise appearance by God herself at the end of the movie - as played by Alanis Morissette no less.

The big joke is that, despite casting the very vocal Morissette to play the character, she's unable to utter even a single word because doing so would cause any human being in the vicinity's head to explode from the sheer awesome force of her voice.

This is exactly the fate that befalls fallen angel Bartleby (Ben Affleck) at the end of the film, though God doesn't actually say a word - she simply screams.

Even when protagonist Bethany (Linda Fiorentino) asks God about the meaning of life in a closing scene, she simply touches Bethany on the nose and makes a quiet noise that sounds something like "Werp," but again, isn't a discernible word.
