10 Best Movie Deaths Of 2019

2. Gretchen (Velvet Buzzsaw)

Velvet Buzzsaw contains a number of awesome death scenes, including Rene Russo's Rhodora Haze being killed by her own buzzsaw tattoo (seriously), and Jake Gyllenhaal's Morf Vandewalt having his neck snapped by Roboman, an art piece that he slagged off earlier in the film.

Either of those deaths would've been worthy of this list, but the bloody demise of Gretchen - played by a scene-stealing Toni Collette - just edges them out in terms of memorability.

Gretchen's death comes at the hand of Sphere, a huge silver ball that museum guests are invited to stick their hands into, in order to experience some sort of unique sensation. Late at night, Gretchen decides to do just that, but regrets the decision once her arm is brutally hacked off after getting stuck inside the hole.

Cue a load of blood and guts shooting out of Sphere and painting the surroundings red, as Gretchen screams in pain, pulls her bloody stump out of the hole, and sinks to the floor before bleeding out.

What makes this death even more great (and morbidly amusing) is that, the next morning, the museum staff assumes that her armless corpse is part of the exhibit, and allows a group of school kids to start messing with her blood.

Gory, funny, terrifically acted and creatively executed? This death has it all.
