7. Cast Away

Panic Room (2002)
Warner Bros

Poor Tom Hanks was one of the first celebs to come down with COVID-19 but at least he'd already practised his self-isolation drill in this classic desert island flick. He plays Chuck Noland, a Fed-Ex executive who crash lands on a desert island and has to battle against the elements and his own loneliness for survival.

Hanks gives (another) career-defining performance, all the more impressive because it really is just him on-screen for most of the movie. He laughs. He cries. He grows a beard, runs around in his underwear and befriends a volleyball. The whole range of human emotion is there.

At its core, Cast Away is a redemption story with a lot of heart and an uplifting message. Definitely worth a watch if you're stuck inside and fancy being marooned somewhere a little more exotic...
