It wasn't exactly a huge surprise to most viewers that Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) was going to meet her untimely end at the climax of The Amazing Spider-Man 2: set pictures had leaked online months before of Gwen wearing the exact same clothes she wore in her death scene from the comic The Night Gwen Stacy Died. Marc Webb could have just been teasing us, but as it turned out, he wasn't, as she meets her grim death at the hands of the Green Goblin (Dane DeHaan). After Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) refuses to give Harry a blood transfusion to save his life, he kidnaps Gwen, and then fights Spidey at the top of a clock tower. With the help of some gears in the tower, Harry is able to cut Peter's webbing holding Gwen safely, at which point she falls and he again fires webbing to save her. While he makes contact, it's just a tad too late, and Gwen falls to the floor, smacking her head and being killed instantly. Few expected such a frank and brutal end to such a likeable character, and Andrew Garfield's devastating performance in the wake of her demise totally makes the scene. It's a shame the rest of the movie couldn't have been this great, though.
