1. Enter the Void
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dL0lNGXoP8E After Gaspar Noe premiered Enter the Void in rough cut form at the Cannes Film Festival, many complained that the film was too long, and therefore Noe decided that if he was to include opening credits, that they would have to be as fast as possible. Hence why we get this exhilarating, exhausting, scary, hilarious and brilliant sequence, which blasts through a litany of names as quickly as possible, the music beginning as a drone before transforming mid-way into a nightmarish electronic bombardment. To compliment this, the visuals get more intense, with Thorsten Fleisch largely being credited with the fantastic animation that morphs each credit, giving this an extremely individual look, and one which has been copied countless times since. No film so perfectly reflects its film's intentions; this is a trippy, heart-pulsing sequence that blows the viewer into the back of the cinema, and is an overwhelming experience in of itself. I'll never forget seeing this film at a press screening; when the credits finished, there was a moment of silence before people began to spontaneously burst into laughter, as though relieved that this in-your-face sequence was over.
