10 Best Movie Posters Of 2017
1. Mother!
Few, if any 2017 movies caught both critics and audiences so unawares as Darren Aronofsky's mother! Headlined by Oscar-winning superstar Jennifer Lawrence and promoted as a fairly standard home invasion horror movie, it turned out to be a monumentally strange, shockingly intense and borderline insensible audio-visual assault, which - according to who you talk to - is a retelling of the Book of Genesis, an environmental allegory, a hard-hitting feminist parable, or a repulsive display of misogyny.
It was always a film that was going to inspire extreme reactions, and again this much was made clear by the poster art: an eerie image of Lawrence's unnamed protagonist holding out her freshly removed heart, against a picturesque floral backdrop that wouldn't look out of place on a Mother's Day card.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, a less provocative poster showing Lawrence side by side with co-star Javier Bardem was more widely circulated around the multiplexes and bus stops.
