3. T-1000 - T2: Judgement Day
Perhaps controversial, but there’s actually several reasons why Robert Patrick’s more advanced Terminator is actually a better movie robot than Arnold Schwarzenegger’s T-800.
The best character? The most iconic? No question about it, both of those go to the original T-800. When it comes to being the best robot though, the T-1000 just edges it.
That sounds confusing at first but it’s actually fairly simple to explain. Arnie’s Terminator might be robotic for the whole of the franchise, but it’s only in the first movie where we see him as a robot. In future instalments, like the upcoming Terminator: Dark Fate, Arnie plays a more heroic character and thus loses some of his robotic edge.
The majority of the robots here are heroes, but it’s the unstoppable killing machine angle where the Terminator movies really shine. In that aspect, Robert Patrick’s version of the character is the undisputed king.
The action sequences in T2: Judgement Day are second to none, and a lot of that is down to Patrick’s career best turn as the ruthless T-1000. Arnie might be the face of the franchise, but the T-1000 is the only foe who’s ever been worthy of him.
