10 Best Movie Sequels That Took Decades To Arrive - Ranked

7. Pee-wee's Big Holiday (2016)

Star Wars The Force Awakens BB-8
Netflix

The Previous Film: Big Top Pee-wee (1988)

Not really a sequel anyone expected to happen (something that probably made it even more of a delightful surprise), Pee-wee's Big Holiday launched on Netflix in 2016, nearly 30 years after the character's last movie - and it felt like he'd never been away.

While the silly comedy present in each of the Pee-wee films won't be to everyone's liking, there's something effortlessly charming about the character's Mr Bean-esque naivety that makes all the ridiculous scenarios he finds himself in believable and fun.

And this comedy is very much present in Pee-wee's Big Holiday. From flying cars to bank robberies to Amish balloon-squeaking, it's zany stuff, but all the corny jokes and juvenile anarchy will certainly awaken that dumb part in all of us that easily laughs at stuff like this.

Pee-wee's Big Holiday won't change your life or change your mind about the character if you didn't like him already, but it's also something you don't have to feel guilty about enjoying. It's just a good movie.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
