The Line: "And that's why every magic trick has a third act, the hardest part, the part we call The Prestige"

A really great title drop can accomplish so much, it'll make your head spin. But in the case of Christopher Nolan's fifth film, The Prestige, the title and title drop are used to give away the entire plot of the movie right at the beginning, as well as the big twist.

"The prestige" of a magic act is the third and final act of the trick, where you pull the rabbit out of the hat - or reveal the canary's in your hand, as Michael Caine does in the scene this line comes from - which is considered the hardest part of any magic routine.

The Prestige (the movie this time) is all about trickery, fake outs, and an exploration of film's masterful ability to perform both without you ever knowing it. The flick is ultimately a mystery story, which hides its true twist until the very last second, like a magic act.

And this line, brilliantly delivered by Michael Caine, gives away exactly what it plans to do to you right from the start, like how the first shot gives away the twist right from the get go. Because like all great magic tricks, the magician doesn't show you the truth until the last possible moment.
