10 Best Movie Villains Played By Comedians

5. Jim Carrey - Sonic The Hedgehog

Penguin Batman Returns
Paramount Pictures

The last seven years haven't been too kind to Jim Carrey's career. While he's consistently used his name for big projects like 'Kick-Ass 2', 'Dumb and Dumber To' and 'Anchorman 2', he has struggled to find any meaningful work outside of sequels - and even they didn't do so well. This is why his performance as Dr Robotnik was so exciting, as it felt like a return to form for the massively eccentric comedian.

Viewers have been treated to many dramatic performances from Jim Carrey, but it was rare to see him take on a part that painted him as the bad guy. While this isn't a masterful display of his dramatic chops, it is a charming performance that sees him use all of his sarcastic and energetic mannerisms for an entirely new purpose.

It's impossible not to feel enamoured with Dr Robotnik, as even though he's the villain, you want to see how far he can go. Watching him gradually decrease in confidence and sanity throughout the movie is exciting, as his blue hedgehog mortal enemy makes a mockery of his technology, and it's so entertaining to see how that affects the devilish villain.

After finally sporting the iconic long moustache and bald head in the end credits, fans can only hope they will get to see more of him.
