5. The Madness Of King George
While at the time George III was frequently referred to as Mad King George, it's believed that he suffered from a blood disease called porphryia, which was responsible for his famous bouts of mental illness. The Madness of King George tells the story of the king's declining mental health and the Regency Crisis of 1788 that ensued, as he rapidly became unfit to rule. Rather than allow his son the prince to claim the throne, doctors attempted all sorts of experimental treatments to cure King George. Through the efforts of Dr Willis, his behavior becomes less erratic, and he races to prevent the prince from becoming Regent. Of course, this was to be but a brief lucid period from which he eventually relapsed, but that's a bit too much of downer, innit?
