10 Best Movies Set On Halloween Night

1. Halloween - The Entire Franchise

31 Rob Zombie
Universal

Why mention one film when there is an entire franchise to get stuck into? The original idea behind John Carpenter's seminal urban horror and genre defining classic was to bring in a different story for each consecutive movie, it just so happened that the first one, a tale of a seriously disturbed young boy who acquires a taste for William Shatner face masks and an even more disturbing taste for extremely large kitchen knives, came first.

After an unproductive spell in an insane asylum, he breaks out, returning to Haddonfield and soon the murders start again, beginning with babysitters on Halloween night. Cue the plinky-plonky synths and a legend is born...

So far there have been a staggering eleven entries, ranging from the superb original to the pointless Halloween: Resurrection. Although Halloween III: Season Of The Witch had a fair crack at trying to get away from the Michael Myers storyline, the studio always felt the pull of Haddonfield and the box office star power of Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasance, if it ain't broke...

Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (more gimmicks) effectively ignored episodes three to six and a further reboot attempt by Rob Zombie, with a sequel to that reboot also, had fans up in arms with the liberties he took regarding Myers himself.

2018 saw the return of Lee Curtis with the imaginatively titled Halloween, with a second and third sequel (Kills and Ends) due to release when the world returns to normal, so quite a while then. Happy Halloween folks.
