10 Best Movies Set On Halloween Night

2. Lady In White (1988)

31 Rob Zombie
New Century Vista Film Company

This is a charming and occasionally spooky ghost story from 1988, is directed by Frank LaLoggia, a multi-talented writer, producer, musician and actor who probably deserved more success for sheer effort alone. While not perfect, here's a movie that just screams Halloween and of course takes place on the night in question.

It's 1962 and Willow Point Falls is a small town in rural USA, with Halloween right around the corner. Young Frankie Scarlatti (played by Lucas Haas, the kid from Harrison ford thriller Witness) tells scary tales to his class mates on Halloween, right before the little toe-rags decide to lock him in the janitors cupboard and leave him there overnight.

While imprisoned, Frankie sees the ghost of a little girl, leading Frankie to further investigate her murder and the deaths of eleven other local children at the hands of a serial killer. Like all good ghost stories, there's a mystery to uncover and a restless spirit to be avenged before he becomes the next victim.

Based on the 'Lady In White' legend from Durand-Eastman Park in Rochester, New York state USA and there are many legends of this type all over the world, all sharing the theme of a woman in white who searches for the body of her murdered daughter. It's a charming film, not big on the scares but perfect for this time of year and wholly suitable family entertainment, if you're not looking to give your kids permanent nightmares.
