8. Carice Van Houten - Black Book

Singling out the Game Of Thrones character who most likes to get their kit off isn't the easiest thing to do, but Melisandre - the Red Woman - is clearly a contender, having only recently tried (and failed) to seduce Jon Snow.

Played by Carice Van Houten, Melisandre is a seducress par excellence, but the film which catapulted the Dutch actress to international fame is no less raunchy and violent than Game Of Thrones and considerably more serious-minded in terms of subject matter of the Nazi occupation of Holland during World War 2. Which is perhaps surprising, given that Black Book is directed by Paul Verhoeven, Hollywood purveyor of sci-fi satire and sex and violence controversy.

Being a Verhoeven film, Black Book naturally contains plenty of sex and violence - not to mention a scene in which Houten's Jewish protagonist dyes her public hair blonde to avoid giving away her background to the Nazis. But beyond the sensationalism lies a superb performance that led to a number of critics declaring Houten as "better than Scarlett Johansson". High praise indeed.
