10 Best Movies Where The Hero And Villain Never Meet

7. The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy

True Romance
New Line Cinema

In Peter Jackson's brilliant adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings trilogy, a young hobbit named Frodo Baggins is tasked with bringing the One Ring to Mount Doom so he can destroy it. Along the way, he meets many allies and enemies, but the primary antagonist is Sauron.

At this point, Sauron exists as a giant fiery eye, which rests atop the tower of Barad-dûr, where he keeps a watch on Middle-Earth. He may not be a corporeal being, but he's there, and should any traveler survive the venture to his Dark Fortress, they could meet.

This doesn't happen through the course of the film trilogy, as Frodo is far less concerned with meeting his enemy than he is in chucking his Ring into the fiery depths of Mount Doom. some might argue that Frodo met Sauron when he first put on the Ring, but that was more of a mutual awareness than a meeting.

The One Ring contains a large portion of Sauron's power, which is why he sought it through his many minions, but ultimately, Frodo made it to Mount Doom and managed to get the One Ring to fall into the lava and destroy Sauron — without ever meeting him.
