10 Best Movies Where The Hero And Villain Never Meet

8. The Last Starfighter

True Romance
Universal Pictures

The Last Starfighter was a great 1980s addition to science-fiction, seeing as it played out every arcade gamer's fantasy. In the movie, Alex Rogan plays an arcade cabinet called Starfighter near his home, and he dominates, getting the highest score of anyone, which brings him to the attention of the game's designers.

They just so happen to be aliens who used the game to find pilots capable of fighting in their war against the forces of Xur, Kril, and the Ko-Dan Armada. Basically, a kid was so good at playing a game, he got to be an interstellar hero in a battle for the freedom of the galaxy, so... no biggie.

When Alex is brought into the fold, he takes to flying the real thing fairly easily, which proved the efficacy of the game. While the bad guys were busy arguing on their command ship, Alex managed to singlehandedly destroy their entire fleet.

Throughout the conflict, Alex never had an opportunity to meet any of his opponents, nor did he connect with them via radio or some other means. That probably worked to dehumanize the slaughter he brought on the enemy forces, but it also robbed the audience of a killer closing one-liner.
