10 Best Musical Themes From Live-Action Marvel Movies

9. X-Men: First Class (2011)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWffS74aXBU By the release of X-Men: First Class, the X-Men franchise had gone through four different composers over the course of four films. Although the original 2000 film's score by Michael Kamen offered nothing in the way of giving the iconic team an equally iconic cinematic theme, John Ottman's impressive theme provided in 2003's X2: X-Men United seemed to finally be what the series could rely on as its key musical identity. But then X-Men: The Last Stand composer John Powell ignored Ottman's theme to try his hand at his own and any chance for the series to have any sort of musical cohesion was lost. With First Class signaling the start of a new era for the films in which it could run as its own series free from the original trilogy's black-leather, futuristic tone, composer Henry Jackman was given the chance to give the film a theme upon which sequels could easily expand upon and explore. While he also successfully introduced some stellar singular themes, such as one for Magneto that could rival the primary theme in terms of excellence, it's the First Class theme that steals the show, as it's appropriately light, fun and flighty, as full of hope for the future of the First Class sequels as that of the characters themselves. Sadly, First Class follow-up Days of Future Past dropped the theme -- although it featured the positive return of another that will be mentioned a bit later -- and clipped its wings before it ever had the chance to truly carry on and shine. As more news and rumors continue to come out about what 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse is shaping up to be, it seems less and less likely that Jackman's theme will ever be heard again, but as it stands, its the series' second best.
