10 Best Netflix Original Movies Of 2020 - Ranked

9. Eurovision Song Contest: The Story Of Fire Saga

The Social Dilemma
Netflix

Will Ferrell has been having a rough time lately, with duds like The House and complete trainwrecks like Holmes & Watson seeming to indicate that the funnyman was running out of steam - either that, or he had just stopped trying altogether.

And so, Eurovision Song Contest: The Story Of Fire Saga couldn't have come at a better time. It's the best Ferrell comedy in years, throwing the goofiness of Zoolander and the big heart of Daddy's Home into a hilarious story about an underdog Icelandic duo navigating the iconic, titular music competition.

Ferrell - who also co-wrote the script - isn't trying to win any awards here, and he fully embraces the silliness of the real-life contest to great effect. The costumes are flamboyant, the songs are ridiculous, and there's even a small subplot about some Icelandic elves that end up murdering one of the story's corporate villains. Seriously.

It's a little too long and it does get painfully predictable as it enters its final stretch, but if you're on Netflix looking for comedies, then Eurovision Song Contest: The Story Of Fire Saga is definitely worth your time.

Also, the movie gets bonus points for a scene-stealing Dan Stevens as Russia's confident and eccentric Eurovision candidate. Spinoff please!

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
