10 Best Netflix Original Movies Of 2020 - Ranked

8. Enola Holmes

The Social Dilemma
Netflix

Enola Holmes was a very important movie for Millie Bobby Brown.

It was her chance to prove that she can be a proper movie star, that she can lead her own film franchise. Godzilla: King Of The Monsters didn't give her much to do, but on the other hand, Enola Holmes would live or die based on the strength of her performance - if she didn't deliver, then the movie would completely fall apart.

Thankfully though, Brown rose to the challenge. She's utterly delightful as the young Miss Holmes, as cocky and confident as you'd expect from someone who grew up alongside Sherlock and Mycroft, but with a more sensitive side that makes her feel like an actual human being with worries and doubts, and not just another unrelatable, detached, hyper-intelligent detective like her two older brothers.

With some quirky visuals and fun fourth-wall-breaking - neither of which outstay their welcome - Enola Holmes is charming as hell, and while it isn't perfect (the resolution to its central mystery is annoyingly underwhelming, and Henry Cavill feels miscast with his dull interpretation of Sherlock Holmes), it will leave you wanting more.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
