10 Best Netflix Original Movies Of 2020 - Ranked

5. Da 5 Bloods

The Social Dilemma
Netflix

Over the last couple of years, Netflix has turned itself into a playground for some truly top-tier filmmakers, with directors like Alfonso Cuaron, Noah Baumbach, and Martin Scorsese all delivering some of their very best work on the platform.

And now, we can add another name to that list: Spike Lee.

Coming off the heels of his Oscar success with the brilliant BlacKkKlansman, Lee has delivered arguably his most impactful film to date with war drama Da 5 Bloods, a harrowing tale about a group of Vietnam veterans who return to the country in search of the remains of their fallen squad leader - along with a hidden treasure.

With some stunning camerawork that captures the lush jungles like they're an all-consuming maze surrounding our characters, and a series of magnificent performances from the likes of Clarke Peters, Delroy Lindo, and the late Chadwick Boseman, Da 5 Bloods is another winner that proves, yet again, why Spike Lee is one of the best in the game.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
