10 Best Netflix Original Movies Of 2020 - Ranked
2. The Trial Of The Chicago 7
The Social Network screenwriter Aaron Sorkin made his feature directorial debut with Molly's Game in 2017, which, while solid, didn't quite blow everybody's socks off with its brilliance, as many had predicted it would do.
But his best was still to come. Returning to the director's chair with The Trial Of The Chicago 7, Sorkin manages to top his previous effort with this transfixing courtroom drama, one that's based on the true story of the legal proceedings that arose from the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
As you'd expect from a Sorkin script, the story is tight, engaging, and wonderfully paced, bouncing from courtroom scene to courtroom scene and stopping for not a single bland moment. Sorkin's ensemble cast - including Eddie Redmayne, Mark Rylance, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt - is also on top form, with everyone from Sacha Baron Cohen to Yahya Abdul-Mateen II bringing their A-game to match the great writing.
The whole package is riveting, and without a doubt, we'll be seeing The Trial Of The Chicago 7 at the 2021 Oscars - if they actually go ahead.
