10 Best Netflix Original Movies Of 2020 - Ranked

3. His House

The Social Dilemma
Netflix

It's a shame that more people aren't talking about His House, and it's actually quite remarkable that it's managed to slip under the radar for most people. Why? Well, it's a brilliant little horror movie that was released at the perfect time of year - Halloween - and what's more, it has that oh-so-rare 100% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

It's surprising that it didn't make more of a splash, but on the plus side, it'll be on Netflix until the universe explodes, so there's plenty of time left to go and check it out.

The movie follows a couple who end up in England after escaping the violence and destruction in their South Sudan home. Soon after, they're assigned to a messy, run-down house in a poor area of London, and while it seems like a normal enough place when they first arrive, it soon becomes apparent that an evil, ghostly presence is lurking within the walls - quite literally - of their new home.

His House feels a little bit like a Jordan Peele social thriller, which is high praise, but it more than earns it. It explores the refugee experience through a horror movie lens, and while it does lean a little too much into supernatural territory at times, it's an unsettling film overall, one that's packed with some memorable and creative scares.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
