Evil never dies, and neither do lucrative horror franchises. Many thought Insidious 3 would be the final entry in the series, but that turned out to be naive thinking because another instalment is in the pipeline.

The tagline of the original Insidious was "it's not the house that's haunted", but that's definitely the case in The Last Key, which finds Elise Rainier return to her childhood home in Mexico to confront a supernatural menace from her past.

The old team are coming back together for this one, with Lin Shaye in the lead role and series co-creator Leigh Whannell on writing and production duties, as well as reprising his on-screen role as Specs.

Insidious: The Last Key's latest trailer is packed with the kind of unnerving imagery you've come to expect from the series, and it also offers a first look at Ava Kolker as young Elise.

The movie will creep into theatres next January.
