Another effort that saw its release in 2013 (an uncharacteristically strong recent year for Cage, especially considering he followed it up in 2014 with four box-office bombs), The Frozen Ground was a very watchable serial killer drama which also starred John Cusack, Vanessa Hudgens and, yes, Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson. Don't let that put you off, though, as the movie is a chilly, tense ride and promises much more to come from first time director Scott Walker. It also stars Dean Norris aka Hank Schrader from Breaking Bad, so that's got to count for something, right? Based on true events, the film tells the story of Cage's Alaska State Trooper Jack Halcombe, who teams up with a prostitute (Hudgens) who escaped the clutches of Cusack's serial killer, Robert Hansen, in order to bring him to justice. Cage gives a decent performance in the film, doing just enough to get the audience on his side in the pursuit of the killer, but it is really Cusack's film. His is a truly chilling portrayal of a seemingly normal family man who harbours an evil dark side that he keeps hidden from the world at large. If nothing else, the film should make the viewer intrigued to read up on the real case of Robert Hansen and the tactic of including pictures of his real life victims in the closing credits leaves you with an uneasy melancholy feeling.
