10 Best Performances In 2018's Worst Movies

1. Laia Costa (Life Itself)

This hilariously melodramatic dumpster fire from This Is Us' Dan Fogelman was widely trashed on the festival circuit before it even reached general audiences.

Incredulously roping in a stellar cast including Oscar Isaac, Olivia Wilde, Mandy Patinkin, Olivia Cooke, Annette Bening, Antonio Banderas and even Samuel L. Jackson, Life Itself is the worst kind of overbearing, Oscar-baiting ensemble drama.

And while most of the actors sadly couldn't do much at all with Fogelman's trash-tier script, there is one who barely made it out with their dignity in tact. On-the-rise actress Laia Costa gives a genuinely affecting performance as Isabel, a young mother who struggles to keep her home life in check.

It's not much of a spoiler to say that this has tragic consequences, and Costa's tear-soaked final scene in the movie would likely be an Oscar reel moment were the script or direction even half-way good.

Sadly it's not, and so Costa's considerable efforts were basically wasted here. But damn, she really tried.
