10 Best Performances In Western Movies

1. Jeff Bridges As Deputy U.S. Marshal Rooster Cogburn - True Grit (2010)

Tombstone Doc Holliday Val Kilmer

Adapted from Charles Portis' novel of the same name, True Grit is surely one of the most beloved western films of the 2010s, and for good reason. While Quentin Tarantino commandeered the genre with multiple stories set in the wild west, the Cohen brothers brainchild did well to harken back to the rustic roots of the western genre.

His appearance resembled a wacky fusion of Big Boss from Metal Gear Solid 5 and The Walking Dead's Carl Grimes, but Jeff Bridges' gruff, gravelly voice lended itself perfectly to the role of an unkempt, scruffy and immensely alcohol-dependent lawman.

Bridges was surrounded by a barrage of impressive actors, including Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, Domhnall Gleeson and a superb performance by previously unknown actress Hailee Steinfeld (the latter nominated for an Academy Award), and while his chemistry with Steinfeld was immediately apparent, his individual performance was excellent in its own right.

Bridges' performance as 'The Dude' in 1998's The Big Lebowski is destined to be his most beloved in a Cohen brothers feature film, but to overlook his role as Marshal Cogburn would be a criminal act fitting of an outlaw.
