10 Best Political Movies Of All Time

8. JFK

Oliver Stone has a thing for making movies about American politics and JFK was without question some of his finest work.

Difficult though it must have been to make a film based entirely upon a popular conspiracy, Stone manages to capture the imagination of the audience and really make you believe that Kennedy may have been the victim of his Vice-President after all. All this isn't to say that the theory is, or has been, disproved. After all, around 60% of Americans still believe there was more to the murder of JFK than meets the eye.

The film that leads with Kevin Costner's expert portrayal of real-life New Orleans DA Jim Garrison, and how he really did bring about the only charges ever filed in JFK's death, outside of Lee-Harvey Oswald's. The wide and sprawling cast is fantastic in the picture, with Tommy-Lee Jones, Gary Oldman, Kevin Bacon, and Joe Pesci being but the tip of a talented iceberg.

Stone's Direction is perfect and filled with thematic suspense, which matches his own screenplay's sense of mystery.

In the years since its release, it has become labelled as one of those films that puffs up the American ego for democracy. Though mostly because Stone himself has now been guilty of that on numerous occasions. That shouldn't detract from what is a fine film that really tries to detail the real investigation into the death of John F. Kennedy.
