10 Best Political Movies Of All Time
7. Frost/Nixon
Since the '90s Ron Howard has been very hit and miss with his films, either really producing some thought-provoking work, or suffering a misfire that goes nowhere. However, in 2008 he made what is probably his best film made since the turn of the Millennium.
Frost/Nixon details the story of journalist David Frost and his now-infamous interview with former President Richard Nixon. These interviews are the ones in which Nixon made his assertion that if an act was carried out by the President then it was 'not illegal'.
The cast couldn't have been more apt for their roles with Michael Sheen bringing David Frost across like some playboy who started out of his depth against a political heavyweight. Along with, Frank Langella as Richard Nixon, the disgraced former President of the United States, desperate to make sure that his legacy wasn't tarnished by his resignation.
The accuracy of the events it depicted was indeed very close to reality and because of this, you come out with a real sense of what both men wanted to achieve with their discussions.
Ron Howard hasn't been better in the 21st Century and really brought his critics to a halt with his deft and smooth direction. Peter Morgan's screenplay too is full of delicately weighted dialogue and entertaining, hardcore verbal fights.
