8. Insidious
Sometimes, less is more.
The after-credits scene here is brief but effective in providing one last moment of creepiness from this popular supernatural flick. In a call back to the opener, the Black Bride is scene with a candle once more, this time blowing out the flame.
Coming hot off the heels of the chilling revelation that the Bride has possessed protagonist Josh Lambert, this quick moment is symbolic of how the plot's panned out. Having spent decades longing to possess Josh, the mysterious Bride can now put the flame out so to speak on his ambition.
Between the horrifying, twist ending scene and this post-credits visual, the film course corrects its scare factor after a notoriously messy third act. It helps remind the viewer of the commendable fear factor director James Wan successfully built up via haunted house moments and set pieces during the first half of the film.
In doing so, it also builds anticipation for Insidious: Chapter 2 as the viewer wants to know both more about who and what the Black Bride is, and also how he's going to be defeated in order to save Josh.
