In 2022, for the first time in a decade, legendary Italian horror director Dario Argento put out a brand new movie. 

This was Dark Glasses, which stars Ilenia Pastorelli as a sex worker who is blinded in an attack by a serial killer. With the help of a young boy she befriends, the hero must continue to evade her assailant’s clutches whilst adapting to her lack of vision. 

Argento, who helped pioneer the Giallo style of horror movies, never does things by the book, which pretty much always guarantees a good time regardless of how good the actual movie is.

Dark Glasses is no exception. It’s far from the icon’s best work, but has enough wacky, off-the-wall moments to keep even the harshest of critics entertained. Half the fun of an Argento movie is trying to figure out what was going on in his head when he decided on a shot, and there’s plenty of that guessing game to be played here. 

A bloody, erotically-tinged adventure that is not for the faint of heart, Dark Glasses is a great gateway for those looking to dip their toes in the Argento waters.
