10 Best Revenge Movies Of All Time

6. Get Carter - 1971

John Wick Chapter 3 Parabellum Keanu Reeves
MGM

The oldest film on this list, Get Carter was actually remade in 2000 starring Sylvester Stallone. Although that was an under-rated and unfairly maligned movie, the original is a far superior piece of work. Starring Michael Caine, for many this is his finest role as he perfectly captures the understated menace of Jack Carter, a hard-man in the employ of London's top gangsters.

The premise is typically straightforward for a revenge flick. Carter's brother has died and whilst at his funeral Carter suspects that it wasn't actually an accident but a deliberate murder. This is what sets him on the trail of revenge, as he tries to figure out what really happened and who is to blame.

The term 'gritty' is overused but fits the atmosphere of this film better than any other adjective could. There is a hardened sense of realism in the action. Caine is entirely convincing in the role - you have no doubt that he is capable of the violence which he exacts upon those who get between him and the truth. Hunt this film down if you haven't already seen it.
