10 Best Revenge Movies Of All Time
3. Kill Bill 1 & 2 - 2003
Kill Bill is Quentin Tarantino's homage to the golden age of the kung fu movie, when Shaw Brothers and Golden Harvest ruled the martial arts world in the '70s. Bruce Lee is also referenced in numerous subtle and rather more obvious ways. From the yellow Game Of Death styled outfit Uma Thurman wore to the use of the Green Hornet theme whilst she is on the aeroplane. The Green Hornet was Lee's breakthrough TV show in the '60s. All the more puzzling to consider why Tarantino would turn on Lee's character so unfairly in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood then.
Although there are two films listed for this category, in reality it is one long movie, following The Bride, Thurman's character, as she sets out to avenge her attempted murder and what she assumes is also the murder of the baby she was carrying. The film cracks along without a wasted moment and the casting of David Carradine, hero of the '70s Kung Fu TV show is inspired.
Thurman is surprisingly convincing in the role of skilled martial arts assassin, aided by superb fight choreography and Tarantino's eye for a memorable fight scene. It is a shame Thurman didn't make more action films as she clearly had what it takes to decapitate an ememy with style and grace.
