10 Best Robin Williams Performances Of All Time
1. Sean Maguire - Good Will Hunting (1997)
The tragedy of Robin Williams' life and death give many of his more dramatic roles added emotion and sadness on re-watches, but few seem so retroactively devastating as his turn in Gus van Sant's brilliant drama Good Will Hunting.
The film stars Matt Damon as math prodigy and petty criminal Will, who's forced to attend therapy after one too many run-ins with the law. Initially hesitant and dismissive of the idea, he soon changes his tune once he unexpectedly bonds with Williams' psychologist Sean Maguire, a widower who clearly sees a lot of himself in the young, troubled genius.
Williams' performance as Sean Maguire won him his first and only Oscar, and it's easy to see why. With disarming honesty, wry humour and tear-inducing vulnerability, he completely runs away with the movie, selling every touching story about Sean's late wife and every spotless monologue in-between.
Robin Williams was one of the best actors of his generation, and in a sea of dozens of great roles, Good Will Hunting remains his best performance of all time.
