10 Best Robin Williams Performances Of All Time

2. Sy Parrish - One Hour Photo (2002)

Robin Williams Good Morning Vietnam
Fox Searchlight

One Hour Photo is easily one of the most underappreciated psychological thrillers on offer, and it just so happens to feature Robin Williams in his single most shocking and unconventional role.

The deeply troubling drama follows Sy Parrish (Williams), a photo technician who develops an obsession for a family who frequent his services. At first, Sy's feelings for the family are based purely on admiration, but things quickly spiral out of control when he learns a life-shattering secret and loses his beloved job.

Unlike many of his most acclaimed roles, Williams' transformative portrayal of Sy features nothing of the actor's most recognisable traits. There's no comedy here, and very little endearing humanity, only increasingly creepy terror, rage and unsettling obsession.

Williams has been funny, harrowingly tragic and a perfect mixture of both, but his role in One Hour Photo is so removed from his normal run of things that it's impossible not to see his performance as one of his all-time greatest.
