What can be said about R2-D2 that hasnt been said a few thousand times before? He is an incredibly important character in the Star Wars universe and one of only four characters who appear in all of the original six films. Immediately as the first (IVth?) film starts R2-D2s helpful nature comes into play as he receives Leias message seeking help from Obi-Wan Kenobi. From there he meets up with Luke and remains an integral part of the story (and the rebel alliance) throughout the sextilogy. Much like Bumblebee, R2-D2s inability to speak (in English) only increases his charm, especially in comparison with C-3POs grating and prolix stream of worries. Like the rest of the cast, he takes his share of getting beat up but he never stresses too much about it. Whether hes accompanying Luke to Dagobah or rescuing the entire crew from Jabba (or Cloud City, or the Death Star, or you-name-it), hes definitely one of the most reliable and endearing droids in the universe. Time will tell what role hell play in the forthcoming Star Wars films, but you can imagine it wont be insignificant.
