10 Best Roger Deakins Movies
1. Blade Runner 2049
Well there could only be one winner. Reuniting with Denis Villeneueve for the third time after Prisoners and Sicario, Blade Runner 2049 finally earned Deakins his Oscar and what a beautiful movie it is.
Building on the world created by Ridley Scott, watching 2049 is a transcendent experience. While the neo-noir sci-fi's long run time may not be for everyone, no one can deny the film is two hours and 45 minutes of cinematic eye candy.
An overuse of CGI and special effects can often take the shine off a movie (looking at you George Lucas and the Star Wars prequels) but Deakins uses it to his advantage.
From the glowing neons of Los Angeles, to the red dust bowl of Las Vegas, to the 'syncing up' scene between Ana de Armas and Mackenzie Davis, Deakins vision of the future is as splendid as it is terrifying.
All in all, Deakins has made some of the most best looking movies in history and every movie he works on, should be watched on the biggest screen you can find.
