10 Best Ryan Reynolds Performances
1. Paul Conroy - Buried (2010)
In all of the previous movies (save perhaps Deadpool), Ryan Reynolds has been shown to work best when working off other actors, creating relationships and allowing his interactions to form the complexities of his characters. That's not quite the case with Buried, though, a film in which he is the only actor to appear on screen and spends the entire time in darkness, buried alive.
Buried is a haunting and uncomfortably claustrophobic thriller, in which Reynolds portrays Paul Conroy, a truck driver located in Iraq who is attacked and buried alive in a wooden coffin. With limited air and time, possessing only a handful of mostly-useless items, he does everything in his power to escape.
Reynolds is desperate, seething with rage but refusing to give up. There is no real charm in his performance - no usual level of wit, sarcasm and energetic humour. In Buried, Reynolds is at his most focused, explosive, and captivating, perfectly showing how talented and multi-layered a performer he really is.
