10 Best Scenes When Movie Characters Turned Evil
7. Dr. Otto Octavius - Spider-Man 2
The story of Dr. Otto Octavius from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2 is a sad one. He was a brilliant scientist who invented a device, which could strap onto his back and add four additional prehensile arms manipulated by his central nervous system. This was completely glossed over despite being a remarkable achievement for his main goal, creating a limitless power source.
When his experiment failed, the resulting accident destroyed a chip, which was used to inhibit the arms from taking over his mind. Because the arms were somehow nefarious, they turned Dr. Octavius into an evil criminal who would stop at nothing to complete his original experiment.
To his credit, Doc Oc wasn't an evil man; he was being manipulated, and couldn't control what he was thinking or doing. In a way, the arms were evil, and they just took the Doc out for a ride. Despite this, he did have a transition scene turning him from good to evil, and it was brutal.
After the accident, the good doctor was lying on his chest in a hospital operating room surrounded by doctors attempting to remove the arms. At this moment, the arms "awaken" and brutally murder everyone in the room. When Octavius rises, he succumbs to the arms' manipulation and turns to a life of crime.
