7. Bill + Ted's Excellent Adventure

The ultimate 'stoner' comedy before this style of comedy became super popular and eventually overdone, this early Keanu Reeves project is a hoot from start to finish. Bill and Ted, played with youthful exuberance by Alex Winter and Reeves, are informed that they will become God like figures in the future- if they can just pass their end of year exams. Given the use of a Time Machine, the totally awesome duo take a trip through history with many hijinks ensuing.

The script milks every possible comic scenario from the time travelling plot device, including love stories featuring men and women of different eras and the kidnapping of many a notorious killer across time. Scenes featuring Genghis Khan using a skateboard and Napoleon enjoying a waterpark called Waterloo shouldn't work, but the events unfold in such a fun campy manner that you just find yourself going with the fun. The stream of awesome one liners makes the film one of the most quotable, "Strange Things are afoot at the Circle K" this writer's favourite.

The inclusion of counter-culture comedian George Carlin as a guardian angel of sorts works a treat, his darker comedic manner proving a perfect fit alongside the 'bogus' humour of the leads. Overall, it is the film's refusal to hold back and willingness to go all in with the outlandish premise that makes it such a delight.
