10 Best Sci-Fi Film Comedies Of All Time

8. Galaxy Quest

This 1999 Star Trek parody proved to be years ahead of its time, with its ability to poke fun at both the Sci-Fi show and its fandom. What makes this parody of the Sci-Fi serials we all became far too invested in work is the film's ability to celebrate the show and its fan culture at the same time. Rather than a bleak message that fans were wasting their lives becoming so engaged in these shows, the message instead is that actors need to learn to accept that their characters have brought a lot of joy to peoples lives.

Tim Allen plays the William Shatner like Jason Nesmith, who 'leads' a host of out of work actors attending a variety of fan forums for Sci-Fi cult classic 'Galaxy Quest', with all becoming gradually more dishevelled and disheartened with each autograph signing session. Their mindsets soon take a change with the arrival of an actual alien race, who believe Galaxy Quest to be a historical documentary, eventually acquiring the cast to take down a violent alien race that threatens to destroy their people.

Sigourney Weaver is hilarious as the ageing sex symbol who was only in the show for her looks, her character's ever shrinking and ever exposed outfit a brilliant dig at many a Hollywood Director. Sam Rockwell steals the show as a B-grade actor who fears his secondary character will surely die, before delivering an ultimate GIF moment with his hilarious reaction to becoming the show's new comic relief.
